The University of Minnesota is a leader in the higher education community in
using technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness in all aspects of its
mission. The Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost partners with units
across the University on instructional technology initiatives for faculty, staff,
and students as well as a variety of Web-based applications for the University
community and citizens across the state (and around the world). This work is
coordinated by Billie Wahlstrom, Vice Provost for Distributed Education and
Instructional Technology.
- The Faculty Toolkit provides University of Minnesota instructors a collection of free
and reduced-price multimedia software for course development and instruction.
The project is co-sponsored by the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost

- Lifelong Learning is
a gateway to University of Minnesota resources for learners of all ages.
- The Next Generation of the Professoriate
(NextGen) helps new faculty members develop the theory and practices needed for
effective teaching in a technology-enhanced environment. The program is sponsored
by the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost and the Office of Information
Technology.
- Online Student Evaluation of Teaching: Faculty have the option of using a Web-based process for mid-semester and end-of-semester
student evaluations of teaching in their classes.
- MyU Portal is a personal entry into the University of Minnesota Web site. Each
Portal page is customized by its user to include tools and important Web links
and can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection. The Portal
provides a secure, online workspace ideal for sharing materials and encouraging
online discussions.
- Portfolio, introduced by the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1995, is a tool
for saving, organizing, viewing, and selectively sharing academic, career, and
personal information.
- The Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) maintains a Web site devoted to issues
of technology in learning.
- TEL Grants Program: The Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost and the Office of Information
Technology co-sponsor a grant program to assist faculty members in developing,
implementing, and evaluating projects that incorporate technology enhanced learning.
- The TEL Seminar Series, sponsored by the Office of Information Technology, feature presentations
by faculty members about using instructional technology.
