Date: November 11, 2004

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

On October 22 I wrote to you about the Strategic Positioning Process and invited you to read and comment upon two draft documents that will inform the discussion about the University's strategic directions. To-date more than 100 members of the University community have responded with thoughtful and productive suggestions. If you have not yet done so, I invite you to visit the Strategic Positioning website at www.umn.edu/systemwide/strategic_positioning to learn more about this important process and share your ideas and feedback with me.

We have also scheduled three Strategic Positioning town hall meetings that are open to everyone. I will outline our process and review the draft documents, then open the floor for questions and comments. These meetings will be:

Monday, November 22, 9:00-10:00, Coffman Union Mississippi Room

Tuesday, November 23, 3:00-4:00, Law School Building, room 25 (this session will be connected via ITV to the UMC, UMD, UMM, and UMR campuses)

Monday, November 29, 1:00-2:00, St. Paul Student Center Theatre

I hope to see you at one of these meetings and/or to receive your input via the website. Thank you.

E. Thomas Sullivan
Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost
