Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,
Welcome back! As we begin a new year and a new semester I think it is worthwhile to celebrate some of the stunning achievements of University of Minnesota faculty, staff, and students.
Recognition of achievement and the excellence of University of Minnesota faculty, staff, and students is among the most important expressions of our stature among public research universities. As this report of awards reflects, we are distinguished by the presence in our community of so many nationally and internationally acknowledged leaders in research and teaching. A number of these awards reflect the culmination of years of scholarly contributions at the highest level.
Please take a moment to carefully read this list of our most recent accomplishments. Congratulate your colleagues and celebrate their successes. And please let me know if there are major national and international awards that are missing from this list. I have changed the format to highlight more clearly individual contributions. Having such a large number of awards is wonderful, but I do want to make sure that everyone is recognized.
I hope that this list serves as an inspiration to each of us to strive for even higher levels of achievement as we begin another academic semester with greater expectations.
