Karen Zentner Bacig is Assistant to the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs in the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.  Karen’s work focuses on all aspects of faculty life and development in support of the work of the Vice Provost.  This work includes the improvement of teaching and learning, the assessment of student learning, and faculty development.  Karen also teaches in the University's Undergraduate Leadership Minor.  Karen brings experience in Student Affairs administration, teaching, and postsecondary policy research to her work. Karen's past research includes the study of postsecondary opportunity and choice among Minnesota high school and postsecondary students and the exploration of strategic-planning processes in higher education. Her current work includes an examination of other academies of distinguished teaching, a study of the experiences of new faculty cohorts, and a qualitative exploration of student-faculty interaction at the University. Karen's interests include higher-education policy, postsecondary opportunity and choice, strategic planning, organizational culture, leadership, and teaching and learning.

Dr. Zentner Bacig holds a Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota, an M.A. in Educational Psychology and a B.A. double major in English and Communication, both from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. She has been at the University of Minnesota since 1996 and in the Provost's Office since 2002.
