How do I stay on track?

  • Complete 30-36 credits each year (15-18 each semester). If you are in a major that requires more than 120 credits to graduate, you will need to complete, on average, more than 15 credits per semester to stay on track. Summer session and intersession may be used to complete the required number of credits.

  • Maintain good academic standing as determined by the department and college offering your major. You are responsible for knowing the requirements for your major and college.

  • Complete your freshman writing requirement in your first year.

  • Declare your major at the appropriate time (but no later than the end of the second year of study) using established college procedures. Note that some majors have requirements that must be completed during the first year.

  • Apply for graduation by the appropriate deadline.

  • Meet with your college adviser each semester during your first year. Meet with the adviser(s) designated by your college or department at the beginning of your second, third, and fourth years of study, or as required by your collegiate advising office, and follow an approved study plan.

  • Work with your adviser to be sure that you meet all checkpoint requirements.

  • To view a sample plan and checkpoint chart for your intended major, please go to the list of majors in the Undergraduate Catalog and click on your major.

  • Register each semester within two days of your assigned registration time, and register for fall term during the early (spring) registration period.

  • If you are unable to register for a key course, notify your adviser or college contact at the time of registration by submitting the Notification of Unavailable Course form, so we can get you into the course and keep you on track for graduation. Your adviser will verify that the course is required and was unavailable at the time you registered. Keep the student copy of the signed form for your records.
