An integral part of the University's land-grant mission is to seek practical application for research results to benefit the public and support regional economic vitality.
The first table below shows licensing and patent activity for the University and the top 10 institutions nationally for FY 2003. The University of Minnesota's licensing income increased 45 percent from FY 2002 to FY 2003 and the University moved from 12th to 5th place among all institutions in this measure.
