Degrees Conferred

Systemwide, the University of Minnesota awarded more than 12,000 degrees in 2003-04, the highest ever. Totals by campus and by type of degree are shown below.

The University of Minnesota - Twin Cities is among the leading producers of doctorates nationwide.

The first table below shows the University's 11th-place ranking among public and private research universities nationally and 9th place standing among public research universities for doctoral degrees conferred during 2002-03.

The second table shows the University's production of doctoral degrees from 1998 to 2003 and its performance relative to other top-10 public and private research universities.  The number of doctoral degrees conferred has been declining nationally, but the University's rate of decrease has been greater than the top-10 averages by a margin of 14 to 15 percent over the past five years.
